What is a Wallaby?

Wallabies are marsupials. They belong to a group of animals called macropods (Latin for "big foot"), which includes all the kangaroos and wallabies (50 some odd species in all). While the species vary in size and the kind of terrain they prefer, overall they are all very similar in their dietary requirements and reproductive behavior.

The Bennett wallaby (Macropus rufogriseus) is one of the larger varieties of wallaby, reaching an adult height of about 30 inches and weighing between 30 to 50 lbs. A wallaby is simply a small kangaroo and, like a kangaroo, it carries its young, called joeys, in a pouch on its abdomen.
